I don't like that second picture, that red team on the bottom better not be Canada.

Oddly enough, Tavares was a much better player when he was playing full time with Bret Maclean, a prospect for the Phoenix Coyotes. I wonder if he has a bit of Scott Thornton syndrome, as he had incredible points because he played alongside Lindros in the juniors, or even Angelo Esposito who was ranked to go number one, but fell off the map when alex Radulov left for the big leagues.

Growing up in Mississauga, I had heard of Tavares a few years before he started playing in the juniors, and he was already being hyped as a phenom then lol.

Not '09 specific, but still an interesting read on the '08 draft. The 2008 draft was hyped up to best one of the strongest drafts of the past decade maybe two, and is certainly holding true to form thus far. This class is about to accomplish a feat that hasn't been done in 18 years... "Not since 1990 - when Owen Nolan, Petr Nedved, Keith Primeau, Mike Ricci and Jaromir Jagr did it - have the first five picks of the Entry Draft been on opening night NHL rosters in the same year they were drafted.
But it looks like it's going to happen this year.
First overall pick Steven Stamkos, of course, has already played two games for the Tampa Bay Lightning and will be a fixture there. No. 2 pick Drew Doughty has made the Los Angeles Kings' roster and they just don't see any upside to sending him back for a fourth OHL season. Atlanta will have defenceman Zach Bogosian as one of its top six to start, but will see after nine games how he is adapting.
Both the St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs will adopt the same philosophy with defencemen Alex Pietrangelo and Luke Schenn. Pietrangelo and Schenn have excelled in training camp and deserve to be there on opening night, but their rebuilding clubs will reassess before the 10th game for each." www.tsn.ca/columnists/bob_mckenzie/?id=251892&lid=headline&lpos=topStory_nhl

Great Tavares article: "John Tavares: The Next, Next One? This year, every once in awhile I will write about the OHL and some of the big stories around that league there. I just moved to St. Catharines and I plan to check out the Ice Dogs at least once a week and see the type of players and game that is played at the Junior A level. This season, we will be hearing a lot about the OHL, particularly the Oshawa Generals and their captain John Tavares. Tavares, as most people know, was drafted into the OHL as a 14 year old, which is the youngest someone has played in the OHL since Bobby Orr played for the same Generals in 1962." www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=17112

Forward prospect Evander Kane of the Vancouver Giants is off to a ridiculous start so far in the WHL.
He is currently ranked in the #10-12 range for the '09 draft, but his stock may increase drastically if he continues his strong play this season.
19 points in 9 games in the WHL is simply outstanding!
