Guys, I think we should keep an eye on what is happening with the Buffalo forward situation.
They've got a lot of depth and plenty of good young forwards, which leaves a certain undersized winger by the name of Clarke MacArthur on the outside looking in.
The twist is, he can't be sent back down to the AHL without clearing waivers.
I would definitely try to either swing a trade for him, or grab him as soon as he hits the waiver wire (though I don't think we have priority).
He's a two-time PPG player in the AHL that can play either centre or the wing, and is only 23 years old.
He's a tireless worker/grinder, with an excellent two-way game, plenty of offensive potential, and a very likeable guy.
He's basically Grabrovski, but with the whole package...
I think this kid's got the potential to be a very good top 6 forward at the NHL level, capable of 60-70 points.
Buffalo's already too small up front as it is, and Mac wouldn't be able to do an effective job on the 3rd-4th lines. He needs to be an offensive player.
They may decide to do all they can to keep him, but it's been widely publicized in Buffalo news outlets that there's a significant chance he wont' make the team.
If that's the case, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Cliff, jump on him right away.

That crowds things even more for them up front. www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=251348&lid=sublink06&lpos=headlines_nhl

"I posted this on HB: They had MacArthur, Darche, and Gerbe all battling for that one spot. Problem is, two of 'em are undersized rookies, and they need someone to fill a 4th line grinding role. Darche is a veteran grinder. Then, they went and picked up another high energy grinder, Matt Ellis, off waivers today. Writing's on the wall IMO."

MacArthur is an interesting senario. Just think, the Sabres put Pominville on waivers a couple years ago and nobody picked him up. If you keep a keen eye out gems can be found.

Should be interesting to see if he's even put on waivers (looking quite possible now after recent news) and whether the Leafs take a shot at him(if he's still available when it comes around to the Leafs). The Leafs are already deep in depth forwards so bringing in more would cause a logjam for the Leafs up front - even more than now.

I'd ship out Poni to Buffalo if it could net us Mac and a mid round pick.

lol, might be a savvy move, except where would we put him? We've already got too many forwards as it is.

But you'd only have to trade/waive one of Bell or Devereaux as one of them would be the 13th forward. The way Steen has been going though you might see him on the 3rd line with Blake/Tlusty on the 1st. Steen hasn't shown much this preseason, whereas Blake and Tlusty have.

Don't forget Hollweg there as the 13th forward, assuming of course he doesn't get killed anytime soon. And yeah, Steen has looked terrible so far.

I really like his energy and aggressiveness, but dear God the guy can't fight. He had 3 fighting majors last night and got killed by Backes of all people. He held his ground against Jansen (but he's a brutal fighter too though), and the other one was was a 2-on-one. This guy has to learn how to not hit a guy from behind. I like that he was still going all out in the 3rd when we were down a bunch but he can't be throwing hits from behind like he did last night, or he will get killed by someone.
