The similarity between the (surely doomed) miracle run put together by the Blue Jays and the Leafs at the end of the last few seasons is uncanny.
But hey, 8 and counting.

A heck, keep going. PLay the spoiler if you must...the worst thing about the run is that you're saving JP's job. Man I don't like that dude.

Yeah baby! Double Digits tonight! This friggin' team is so frustrating! Where was this last month? We had a kick ass May, but sub par for the rest until now....AAAARGH! But I'm pulling for them. Hey, Ace....I'm not sure if you follow the Jays as much as the Leafs, but what's up with Ricky Romero? I remember when they drafted him years back he was supposed to be the "next" best pitcher. You know anything about him?

You know anything about him? He finally made it to AAA this year. He had a pretty good year, from what I read. Seems to still have a future, maybe. The last paragraph in this article talks about Romero and some other prospects. www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/2008/09/05/carson_kids/

Haha yeah, I'm all about the Jays-Leafs baby! Luckily they don't conflict with each other (since the Leafs haven't played into May in a long time and the Jays never play into October), so I've gotten the chance to follow both. To answer your question, back when Ricky Romero was drafted 6th overall in 2005, he was looked upon as the most MLB ready pitcher in the draft. He was never at any point projected to the Jays next best pitcher or future ace, but he was projected to be a #2-3 innings eater that would reach the Majors within 2 years (which obviously didn't happen). In hindsight, it's very easy to criticize the pick especially after young stars like Tulowitzki and Bruce went later in the round, but thinking from the Jays' point of view, and them being on the verge of contention, they needed someone that could help and fast. Plus, on the trade market, #2-3 starters tend to be worth more than upcoming prospects, albeit good ones, so it was also possible for the Jays to flip a Ted Lilly for example for prospects should Romero reach the bigs quickly. Romero started off his minor league career very well, reaching high A as a 20 year old. At age 21, he dominated A+ ball, and earned a promotion to AA where he struggled mightily but he was still very young so it wasn't considered much of a blip. At age 22, he spent an entire season in AA and was projected to maybe even reach the majors, but he completely fell apart posting terrible numbers across the board. That season hurt his prospect status significantly. Now at age 23, he started off very poorly again this year, but then put together a string of 10 or so good starts in a row, which prompted the Jays to push their luck and try him at AAA. Romero responded with a 3.38 ERA through 7 starts, and at age 23, has emphatically put himself back on the map as a legitimate prospect. Stuffwise, Romero throws about 92-93 MPH with his fastball, features a curveball, slider, and a devasting changeup (his best pitch). While he is unlikely to be a #2 workhorse type starter, it's still quite possible that he can carve out a long MLB career as a back end guy that can give you 10 wins and a ton of innings, while still possessing the potential for more. If he bounces back with a strong start in AAA next season, we could see him join the Jays rotation midway through the year, and go from there.
