Mitchell, after starting camp on the wing, was handed an assignment at centre against Buffalo. Wilson hinted yesterday that Mitchell, who has flown under the radar in four years in the Leafs farm system, looks ready for an NHL roster.
"We're taking a look and I don't know how it will shake out, but (Mitchell's) impressing the coaching staff to find him a spot at centre or wing," Wilson said.
"He's working hard, he's nasty and he's a better skater than I thought he was."The Leafs are in a good position with the number of forwards and defencemen at camp. They have at least nine possible NHL calibre defencemen who could play on the team, but only six or seven possible openings. The expectations are that GM Cliff Fletcher might cull the number by packaging players in a trade for a draft pick before camp ends. www.thestar.com/Sports/Hockey/article/507933 Sounds like Wilson is really impressed with Mitchell so far, and rightfully so. Very good at faceoffs, strong, big, skates well, with a solid two-way game. Really seems like his type of player.

In my honest opinion, Mitchell deserves a spot more than Kulemin or Grabovski. Mitchell is a better player than both.

I think he's earned a spot, but I don't think there is room. Hopefully Cliff can put something off. We need to move a forward and a Dman, maybe they can package them off to someone. Mitchell was 56% in the face off dot, and it wasn't all against AHL'res. He was only 33% against Roy, but was 50% against Guastad, who is supposed to be their faceoff guy.

Cliff needs to get rid of some of our players, both forwards and defence. We need to get rid of 1-2 defenceman and 3-4 forwards. Cliff needs to make room up front for guys like Mitchell, Williams and Earl.

I don't know how he can make the team if the Leafs don't ship out any forwards. They already have
Blake, Antropov, Steen, Hagman, Grabovski, Kulemin, Tlusty, Stajan, Poni, Bell, Moore and Mayers. There's 12 forwards right there. Who do you send down out of those 12 in favour of Mitchell? Add to that list Devereaux and Hollweg and you've got 14 NHL forwards as well as Earl, Williams, Mitchell and Boyce all vying for a spot. I guess this just goes to show that someone is going to have to be the odd man out.

I thought he should have made the team out of camp last year. I'm not shocked at all.

I don't know if you did it on purpose, but you have Hollweg as the 13th/14th forward. I'm pretty sure he's going to be top 12!!

lol, I haven't changed my list since the offseason, but once again whether he is top 12 or not, who does he replace? I don't know, that's the problem. I think that he's capable and has earned a spot, there just isn't enough room!! We've got Devereaux and Bell as extras as it stands now without including Mitchell.
