None of those players you mentioned came with a 4 million dollar cap hit. 4 million, 50 points, 37 years old and 2nd round pick should never be mentioned in the same sentence. If Lang is worth a 2nd now what is Jason Blake worth? A 1st? 2 2nd's? Less? Lang has been more consistent throughout his career than Blake, Lang is a career + player and Blake is a - player, plus Lang is a UFA at the end of the year whereas Blake has 3 more years after this year. Blake is worthless!!! We'll never get anything for Blake. We're going to have to waive him/buy him out to get rid of him, and I don't want to buy out anymore players!!! We've got too much money tied up in players that aren't here anymore. That's false, if Blake has any sort of decent year coming up, he will be movable at the deadline.

What do you consider to be a good year for Blake? Also Blake is know as a "ME" player and not a "TEAM" player. Not many teams looking for a guy coming of a disastrous season who is a me first player with three more year @ 4mil. I don't think that there are many team interested in him. There are teams looking for offense (Vancouver, Minnesota) but nobody's asking for him right now. That tells you how low his value is right now.

Okay, but Schneider, Murray, Bryzgalov, Carter, Allison, O'Neill, even Emery, all these players were bought out, waived or not signed anywhere in the league and therefore not even dealt by their clubs at the time because there just isn't the space nor the market for very many players these days. But if Blake can put up over 20 goals, and gets on pace for around 25 to 30, team's will be interested in his services as most players that put up between 20 to 30 goals are making an average of 4.5M to 5.5M a season. Blake even had more points than Mike Fisher last year, despite a different style of game. In a poor season by Blake, he was better than Fisher in point production. You can argue that Ottawa is a one-line team and that Fisher had no one to play with, but consider that Toronto was a 1 top line player team and a whole bunch of third liners. Now, Fletcher claims the Leafs have 1 good top six forward on any team in the league (Antropov) so a third liner in Blake can put up over 50 points in a season without any supporting cast. I'm not saying I'm a big fan of the guy, but he never missed a game after being diagnose with Leukemia and he still managed to hit the 50 point plateau. You have to respect that.

Well, take a look at what guys like Sutherby, Perreault, Nagy, etc all cost. Lang is consistently good for 50-60 points, and I'm pretty sure he would've gotten that much at the deadline. The fact that Montreal gets to pay the same price for a full season as opposed to the last 20 or so games is a plus. You think he's worth as much as Kilger? Who got a 3rd round pick? None of those players you mentioned came with a 4 million dollar cap hit. 4 million, 50 points, 37 years old and 2nd round pick should never be mentioned in the same sentence. If Lang is worth a 2nd now what is Jason Blake worth? A 1st? 2 2nd's? Less? If Jason Blake was in the last year of his contract, I would definitely expect a 2nd round pick back in return.
